Summary
‘Airstrip’ is an excellent example of the Westerly GK29. Currently used as a club racer, she is equally at home on the cruising front and those who wish to have a fast cruiser that is well equipped and doesn’t cost the earth will be hard pressed to find better in todays market.
Her lead ballast keel gives a 50% ballast ratio making her very stiff and a joy to handle in light airs. Recent Hyde mainsail and furling genoa as well as new standing rigging make this yacht a very attractive acquisition for those wishing to get afloat this year without a huge initial outlay. Well maintained engine and wireless electronics enhance value.
Mechanical
Vessel powered by an 18hp, Volvo Penta MD2002 inboard diesel. The engine undergoes an annual service which includes replacement oils, filters, impeller as well as a lubrication of all cables. Other work completed were replacement injectors in 2024 and new exhaust elbow in 2022. The engine is situated beneath the companionway and is accessible from the front and the rear. Reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 2 bladed folding Gori propeller.
Fuel is stored in an 88 Litre Vetus plastic tank which is very accessible should it ever need to be cleaned.
Electrical
Bank of 2x12V batteries fitted with a rotary style battery selector. These provide engine start and domestic power. The batteries are situated beneath the quarter berth allowing easy access should they need changed. Last change was 2024. The batteries are recharged via the engine alternator or the onboard solar charging system. The solar charger also includes a battery monitor providing a digital readout of the current charge in each battery. There is a plug in battery charger on board that can be used with an extension cable from the shore power lead.
Shore power cable. There is no shore power system.
Rigging
Bermudan, Masthead sloop rigged yacht with keel stepped aluminium spars by Selden. Stainless steel standing rigging replaced in 2021. Terylene and Dyneema running rigging in good order. Mainsheet track in cockpit.
Furlex roller furling headsail system. Slab reefing mainsail mounted in stack pack system on boom. Vessel rigged for spinnaker including aluminium pole.
Sails include Douthwaite/Hyde fully battened mainsail – 2022, a roller furling Douthwaite/Hyde genoa – 2023, a North Spinnaker and a spare Saturn main and genoa and a further spare Hood main. Easy to sail with control lines led aft to clutches via deck organisers.

Accommodation
Below decks is very comfortable with good headroom considering the deck profile. She can sleep 5 adults but truthfully more suited for 4 persons. The main saloon is entered via the companionway. To port is the chart table with chart storage, chart reading light and 12V instrument panel. Quarter/pilot berth aft.
Opposite the chart table is the galley which features excellent storage below and above the counter tops. A Plastimo Neptune 2500 gas oven with 2-burner hob and grill is more than sufficient to conjure up culinary delights and provisions can be stored in the top loading ice box, Stainless steel sink with foot pumped fresh water.
The saloon has a central dop leaved table with settee/berth port and starboard. The foam in these cushions was replaced in 2022. There is storage beneath each settee and open storage behind the back rests area. Forward of the saloon bulkhead is the heads compartment with Jabsco sea toilet. The sea toilet has Blakes vales which are serviced annually. Hanging locker opposite and sink. In the bow is a V-berth with additional infill. 12V lighting throughout. Lots of natural light from deck hatches and port lights. Upholstery in good condition. Taylors multifuel cabin heating.
Construction
GRP constructed sailing yacht with lead fin keel and transom mounted, glass sheathed wooden rudder with wooden tiller steering. White gelcoat topsides with signature Westerly navy blue coveline. Underwater areas have been coated in International VC Tar and have an annual antifoul along with a topsides polish. Wide side decks finished in with both light and dark grey ‘Kiwigrip’ deck paint. Aluminium toe rail. Stainless steel bow and stern rails conjoined by stanchions and double set guard wires.
Wide cockpit with Treadmaster cockpit sole. Cockpit locker tops are finished in attractive, and I have to say very comfortable 3mm ‘Seadeck’ panels.
Cavernous sail locker to starboard incorporating fuel tank and self-draining and vented gas locker. Transom with boarding ladder.
