Construction

Manufacturers Description
The vessel is built using the latest refined mould. The GRP hulls are fully stiffened with substantial ribs placed throughout the length of the vessel to provide a strong and robust structure. Engine bearers form part of the hull. The construction lay up used is in accordance with Lloyd's register of shipping (LRS) rules under their Special Service Craft (SSC) Rules. Chopped Strand Matt (CSM) is applied by hand application incorporating a number of combination matts incorporating woven rovings to which are bonded foam-cored GRP overlaid ribs at 650mm centres throughout the length of the vessel. Foam-cored GRP overlaid longitudinals are also incorporated. Hull thickness differs in different areas but a maximum of 30oz can be expected. Completed hull mouldings will be de-burred and gelwashed internally. Completed hull mouldings will be abraded prior to paint application.

The vessel is fitted with 3 main structural watertight bulkheads per hull. The main structural bulkheads are to be plywood and fully bonded to the structure with exception of the forward engine room bulkheads, which are to be either sheet GRP or sealed plywood to allow for tank removal hatch. The bulkheads are set off the hull on a LRS-compliant resin filler and receiving strips are put in the way of the bulkheads, where there is no frame or floor.

The deck is constructed of 15mm Lloyds Marine gaboon plywood overlaid with 2 x 450gsm combination matts on the working deck and sealed on the underside to prevent moisture ingress. Standard engine room hatches and plants are manufactured of GRP with plywood core, hinged and sealed with Bailey lock down catches. All access hatches are Freeman oval aluminium hatches except for the accommodation escape hatches, which are 600mm x 600mm clear Lewmar type complete with integral roller fly screens.

The wheelhouse is built as a separate structure fitted and bonded to the main deck. The structure is constructed of GRP with foam core incorporated within the roof panels. The wheelhouse is approximately 3.3m wide and 5.4m long.
