'Maighdeann Mhara' is a great example of the Mark II version of the ever popular, Bill Dixon designed, Moody 31. With 6 generous berths this is the ideal family cruising yacht. Mechanical

Vessel powered by a well maintained, inboard Volvo Penta MD2003 diesel engine.
This 28hp workhorse offers reliability and economy and was serviced in March 2024.
Fuel is stored in a carbon steel tank holding 76 litres.
The engine is housed in a soundproofed compartment beneath the companionway steps. There is easy access to both the front and rear of the engine for daily checks and servicing.
Reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 2 bladed fixed bronze propeller. Rope cutter.
The yacht will cruise happily under engine at 5 knots. She has a top speed of 7 knots.
Bank of 2X12V batteries fitted with rotary style isolator. Battery No1 was replaced in April 2023 and No2 in August 2017 and are marine grade.
The batteries are recharged via the engine alternator or a portable battery charger. Fused switch panel situated at chart table.

Sails include a fully battened, slab reefing mainsail, roller furling genoa with smart blue sacrificial strip and a cruising chute.

Accommodation

Below decks is well maintained and in good order. The main cabin is accessed from the cockpit via a sliding hatch and twin washboard system. The woodwork is a combination of solid teak and teak veneer/marine ply bulkheads. The upholstery is comfortable, in good condition and finished in an attractive, hard wearing maroon material. The headlinings are wipe clean and add light to the interior.
This is one of the very few yachts from this era with an aft cabin. This space is bright and spacious with a hanging wardrobe to starboard and hull-mounted cubby hole storage. There is an opening port into the cockpit allowing ventilation. This area is carpeted and has 12V lighting. Returning to the saloon and continuing on the starboard side is the L-shaped galley. There is a gas-fuelled Plastimo Neptune 2500 oven with two-burner hob and separate grill. Top loading fridge for perishables and a circular stainless steel sink with pressurised cold water. There is a calorifier but this is disconnected.
Opposite the galley is the chart table/navigation area. Here you will find the forward facing chart table with seat, chart storage, and drawer storage. Here is the 12V switch panel and chart reading light.
Central drop leaved table with central bottle storage. Well upholstered settee/berths port and starboard, finished in maroon easy clean fabric. Storage below each berth and hull mounted above the backrests.
Bow cabin with bi-folding privacy door. Double berth with additional infill cushion. Cupboard storage to starboard and hanging locker to port. Large escape/deck hatch for light and ventilation.
To the rear and aft of the chart table is the heads compartment. This area features a moulded sink unit with cold pressurised mixer tap and storage cupboard below. There is a Jabsco marine toilet. Wet locker aft.
