Summary
Silver Cloud is a stunning example of the Dufour 455, the flagship of Dufour’s cruiser range of yachts launched in 2005 and which marked the transition from the excellent Classic range. From Sail Magazine “the 455 is fast and stable on all points of sail in mid-range wind speeds. It has good manners and is easily handled by a small crew”. This design has a rig, deck layout and sail plan which provides a combination of performance, comfort and ease of use.
Silver Cloud has a large, welcoming and comfortable cockpit with stern access, twin wheels and a large teak table. The cockpit has a fitted bimini and sprayhood to provide protection from sun and rain. On deck she is easy to move around having wide side decks. A notable feature is the large sail locker just aft of the anchor locker which can take for example the asymmetric, the dinghy and plenty of fenders. This leaves the cockpit lockers free for ropes and warps and all which is used on a regular basis.
Down below the saloon is, to quote a visitor, cavernous and has a table well able to seat six or seven. There are three cabins, all doubles, two in the stern and a master’s ensuite cabin forward which has a loo and shower stall. There is a second head aft. Silver Cloud has a long linear gally with a three ring and oven cooker, and a deep fridge and adjacent icebox. She has a full size chart table to starboard. There is plenty of storage for groceries, drinks etc and for any amount of tools, spares, bosun’s bits and pieces and so on. There is a TV and a microwave.
Access to the engine is available behind the companionway and from the aft cabins. The engine is a top rated Volvo Penta D2 75 yielding 75HP (the standard engine gives just 51HP) driving a powerful Volvo Penta four blade folding propeller.
Silver Cloud has a comprehensive specification which includes the mainsail(with single line reefing), the genoa, the asymmetric, an electric halyard and reefing winch plus three manual winches, an electric windlass and a bow thruster. She has a comprehensive inventory which includes a 2022 liferaft, a dinghy and outboard, spares and bosun’s bits and a complete domestic pack of plates, bowls, mugs, pots and pans and cutlery. The engine was serviced in November 2024 and new anodes were fitted to the propeller when she was antifouled in January 2025.
In a nutshell Silver Cloud is a fast, comfortable and well-maintained cruising yacht which can be sailed short-handed or which can take the whole family, She is ready to go.

Owner's Comments
Silver Cloud has been a pleasure to own. We have cruised locally along the south coast as far west as the Scillies Islands as well as making frequent cross-channel trips to the wartime beaches of Normandy, the Channel Islands and down to Les Sables d’Olonne. Throughout these many miles she has proved herself to be fast, stable and completely unruffled by a bit of wind. She comfortably makes 9 knots on a beam reach in a good Force 4. We have never had to put the second reef in and the first only when the wind speed gets above about 22 knots apparent. She is very easy to sail with a small and elderly crew, generally in their 70s and 80s, or with my children and grandchildren.
Silver Cloud has a large cockpit which has proved to be something of a lure for Commodore’s drinks during my yacht club rallies and the cavernous saloon enables us to feed the family hordes with ease.
I have looked after her well during the three years I have owned her and have put her ashore each winter for anti-fouling and anode replacement. You will see in the detailed particulars that I have renewed several significant items.
It is antiquity which is forcing me to sell. She will therefore come with a very extensive range of domestic and technical in addition to the declared inventory. I am confident that the buyer will enjoy her as much as we have.
