‘Spirit of Brough’ is a Cruising Spirit 33 built by Sagar Marine to a Denis Ganley Design. Denis Ganley was a leading yacht designer in New Zealand who specialised in steel yacht design intended for offshore and serious coastal cruising, so they provide the ultimate in strength and safety. There are over 1,000 of these designs either sailing or under construction around the world. Many of his designs have made remarkable passages offshore.
Cutter rig sail plan with Harken furling gear. Inboard diesel engine offer reliability. Below decks sleeps 5/6 persons over a fore cabin and saloon. Comprehensive electronic navigation aids including B&G Colour plotter and Standard Horizon VHF with inbuilt AIS and GPS. Electric windlass, bow thruster and Taylors diesel heating add value and comfort. Underwater areas antifouled in June 2024 ready for season.

Mechanical

Vessel powered by a BMC 1500 36hp, 4-cylinder inboard diesel engine. The engine is situated beneath the companionway and is housed in a sound proofed box. This box is easily removed to allow all round access for servicing and daily checks. Last service was in 2024. Reduction gearbox driving a stainless-steel shaft and three bladed bronze propeller. Propeller protected by the keel mounted rudder. Engine start panel in cockpit with rev counter, oil pressure and temperature gauges. Key start.
Bank of 4X12V batteries providing engine start, domestic, and bow thruster power. These are recharged via the engine alternator, or the onboard battery charger or wind powered generator. Switched 12V panel at chart table

Rigging

Cutter rigged yacht with deck stepped aluminium mast and boom by Z-Spars. There has been decent money spent on the sailing aspect of this boat and equipment is by Spinlock, Harken and Lewmar. Both the inner and outer furling gear is Harken MkIV systems. The mainsheet traveller and cars are also by Harken and the deck organisers are by Spinlock. The majority of the lines are led aft making shorthanded sailing a reality.
The standing rigging was replaced in 2022 and all the running rigging was replaced in 2019. Sails include:

Main saloon is accessed via the off-set companionway. Steep ladder access and you are in the saloon with galley to prt and chart table with quarter berth to starboard.
Midships is a U-shaped seating and dining area to port and a large settee/berth on the starboard side.
Between the saloon and the forecabin is the heads compartment to port and a hanging space to starboard.

Construction

Steel constructed blue water cruiser with hard chined hull, box section keel and transom mounted rudder. Steel is 4mm thick below the water line. Under water areas have been antifouled and anodes replaced in 2024. Hull topsides are painted white with smart green band.
Steel deck and superstructure painted white. Steel bowsprit with grate. All stanchions and guard wires were replaced in 2024. Deep cockpit with drains. Teak grate. Nice wide side decks allow easy access forward when anchoring.
